Default factory installed security alarm system

I have an 09 Smart and every now and again the security alarm goes off...for absolutely no apparent reason. Last spring when it happened at least once a day for several weeks, I called the dealer.

They had no answers. Later in the spring when I was cleaning out the back of the car I noticed the chocolate I had in a grocery bag (all packaged up) had been chewed on by a little animal I would guess had to be a mouse or a little red squirrel. I cleaned everything up...no more problem...or so I thought.

It is now happening sporadically about once a month. I have nothing in the car that would attract more animals. And then, curiously, today my partner used my car for an errand and when he came home he went inside w/o locking the car. After 20 min or so, he remembered he'd left something in the car.

The door was open, he got his item, went back in the house, and never thought more of what had just happened. When I got home and asked where he had put my keys, he looked everywhere and couldn't find them. He went to the car to look and the doors were locked, so he looked the best he could to see if the keys were visible...no luck.

The searching went on for a long while and I finally located my second set and went to the car. Sure enough the doors were locked, no sign of any keys in the car, and I used the 2nd set to open the door. I instantly found the 1st set in the door pocket.

What I want to know is...HOW DID THE CAR LOCK ITSELF WHEN THE ONLY AVAILABLE SET OF KEYS HAD BEEN LEFT IN THE CAR??? There is no way to lock the doors when you are outside the car and the doors are closed UNLESS you have your keys in your hand!!!

    Any ideas???

I know old post but yes lock button hit door as it fell into the pocket. My care will lock and occasionally the alarm will sound when the keys are in my pocket and i'm working in the garage or cutting grass.

Default factory installed security alarm system

I dont think the standard FRS comes with the alarm system, it is only available on the BRZ Limited and yes it is deactivated by default.

Once activated, if you try to open the door or trunk with the physical key, the alarm will go off found this out when I gave the remote fob to the parking attendant at TD Tower and then proceed to open the door with my physical key cuz I forgot something.
