Default 2016 smart fortwo ED Earns Four-Star Safety Rating From Federal Government

WASHINGTON The carryover 2016 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive subcompact car earned a four-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Five stars is the highest rating.

On sale now at Smart dealerships, the Fortwo Electric Drive received four stars in the front crash test, five stars in the side crash test and four stars in the rollover crash test.

Standard safety equipment includes antilock brakes, traction control and electronic stability control.

NHTSA has not rated the redesigned 2016 Smart Fortwo coupe and cabrio models.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has not rated the 2016 Smart Fortwo.

Key Smart Fortwo competitors include the Chevrolet Spark EV, Fiat 500e and Nissan Leaf.

Edmunds says: Car shoppers keeping score should note that the 2016 Nissan Leaf earned a four-star overall safety rating from NHTSA. The 2016 Chevrolet Spark EV and Fiat 500e have not been rated.

Four out of five not bad for an Electric Drive especially that it is a 451 Electric Drive.

I am looking forward to seeing the ratings for them both.

Great rating, i would have expected a solid five out of five but at least it is high up there on the top four out of five. So i can pretty much say it is safe but that one star is "well rare for anything to go wrong" so that would classify it 80% safe, 20% otherwise, if that makes sense.

Yes that does make sense i can see it safe, but that is good odds i suppose in fact i am moreless shocked to see 20% than the 80%

Anyone know what "NHTSA" even means? I get it haves to do something with safety but i never heard of it.

NHTSA means National Highway Traffic Safety Administration which is an agency of the Executive Branch of the U.S. government, with a mission to save live. If you drive the freeways you can see led signs about slowing down to save a life etc.
