    Default Trailer Hitch for Brabus451

I bought a Brabus 451 in sep. 2010. I have been looking for a rear hitch, but can't seem to find one. Every site I go to makes them for all smarts but not the Brabus. Can anyone lead me in the right direction. Thought about making one using the tow bolt hole on the rear, but would rather get one from someone who has fabricated it for the Brabus. I'm sure they are made, I just can't locate one

This may not be too much help, but I am certain that I have read on smartcarofamerica.com that someone discovered a trailer hitch that will fit their passion with their aftermarket center exhaust. If you don't get a more solid response than mine, take a look there. It's probably under the towing/trailer section. Good luck finding one!

I think he meant Curt Hiches. I checked they don't make one for the Brabus.

    Hi Tony !

I've mounted two MDC towbars on my both m/450 with very good result. I can highly
recommend Michael Papenburg and his products. As You can see and read in following
link, towbars are not ment for m/451 "centerdoublepipe", (read BRABUS).

    MisterDotCom....

Now, it's up to You - towbar or "centerdoublepipe". Your option is to change exhaust
to a standard 84 hp exhaust, then the MDC-towbar will fit Your car.

Good luck with Your decicisions (?spelling?)

    KfL :-)

Hey Lesse, Thanks. That is very helpful. Thats atleast another option I have. Do you think I could make one using the tow bolt holes with the factory tow hooks? I'm thinking that could be done. But use a nicer bolt and stainless bar for the bumper. Like a stainless nurf bar made for a pickup truck under the door step.

    Hi again Tony !

... make one using the tow bolt holes with the factory tow hooks? Yes and No !

Yes: Easypeasy, but depends on what's Your expectations use are. Bicycles,
Snowboards, Skies or some light loadings.

No: For trailer towing - NO WAY ! The m/450 crash bar is made of Aluminium
and the "rolled windings" aren't made for that kind of stress. The m/451 crash
bar is made of Iron and the "rolled windings" aren't made for that kind of stress
    ether.

The MDC towbar is TÜV tested, made to apporoval of 94 / 20 / EG and other
regulations. In short - they are made for the purpous of towing in road safety
conditions, just follow the weight and ballpressure limits - AND A GOOD SENCE !

For a second opinion in these matters, contact the good Scotsman Tolsen, also
    found at

Smart Photo's in nice places - smart car club - onSMART forums...

"It was this load that knackered my aluminium crash bar"

    Hi Tony,
If you haven't found one yet, go to WTS and there you will find the smart car adaptor.
    Good luck

    Default Trailer Hitch for Brabus451

Cant get the trailer hitch to couple with the ball on the car hitch. Ball seats but wont lock in place. Can raise the tounge off the hitch by hand. Any ideas?

Equalizer is very nice. Look at Fastway products. Same concept but not as expensive. We had one when I had my TT and it worked well.

Just make sure that you get over the weight of your trailer, or if you have a 10k trailer get the 12k hitch, just my thoughts

    Default Trailer Hitch for Brabus451

    I make a trailer hitch for the B4, B5 and B6 A4 convertible.
Great for bike racks and small trailers. Soon to come is a vertical ski rack.

The A3 is too small to fit skis and does not include a pass through. Same as A5

Does anyone have this type of hitch? Do you recommend it? We have an Outback 328RL. It is not the most pleasant trailer to pull with our 04 Ford Excursion 6.0 Diesel. We currently do not have this hitch, but it looks like an excellent item.

Yes I recommend it with two requirements. You can afford it and more importantly you have the TV payload capacity to handle the additional weight of the 3P hitch. That may be your challenge with the Excursion with or without the 3P hitch. What does the door pillar yellow sticker say is the payload capacity for the Excursion?

I welded up a hitch for our 96 that has about 12 of rise and enough back angle to allow the engine door to open. I tow a Colorado with no problem. Id be curious to see what people use to tow a stacker.
